Pieve di Cadore: Asterix & Obelix - The Gallic helmet

Do you remember the Gauls? Perhaps the adventures of Asterix & Obelix come to mind, very funny caricatures engaged in fighting the Romans!

“Gauls” was the term used by the Romans to refer to a group of populations of Celtic culture, inhabiting much of continental Europe during the Iron Age. Starting from the 4th century, migrations of Celtic populations crossed the Alps and settled in northern Italy, including the mountainous areas of Cadore. After the First Punic War, Gallic power began a gradual decline to be incorporated into the Roman state in the 2nd century BC.

Proprio qui, a Vallesella di Cadore, è stato ritrovato, mentre si lavorava la terra, un elmo gallico di ferro, risalente al 300 – 200 a.C.

Right here, in Vallesella di Cadore, an iron Gallic helmet dating back to 300 – 200 BC was found while tilling the land. Pesa 2,5 chilogrammi, è alto 33 centimetri ed è privo di ornamenti.

If you want to relive its history and admire it, it is preserved in the Museum of Pieve di Cadore.
