the Iron and Key Museum: A place where the testimonies of the great working experience of the inhabitants of the small Cadore municipality are collected. Set up near the Mining Office, located in the hamlet of Cibiana di Sotto, it tells the story of Cibiana and identifies its rich and varied specificities. “The Museum was created from the ruins of an old church, probably from 1300. The documented history of the mining activities of Cibiana begins in the 15th century when, after the alliance of Cadore with Venice, in the year 1420, the Serenissima encouraged the search for new metalliferous sources. At the same time he also began the exploitation of some woods for the production of the charcoal necessary for the operation of the ovens and forges. Traces of all this can be found in the Museum. The museum structure was built on two floors. The ground floor houses the part relating to the mines and iron processing, while on the upper floor there are the objects obtained from the smelting of iron. On the ground floor there is also an Errebi printing machine with which cold keys were produced. To tell the visitor about the technical evolution of the transformation of metal into objects of common use, panels have been created which illustrate in Italian and English every step, every leap in quality, every chapter of a story which in Cibiana took its away shortly after the year one thousand. ”
A large part of the upper floor has been reserved for keys: Cibiana has been the capital of key production for many decades.
Pieve di Cadore: Pieve di Cadore is about 15 minutes away by car, a trip well worth it! here you can see the birthplace of Tiziano Vecellio, a very famous painter of the 1400s; one of his paintings is located inside the nearby Church of Santa Maria nascente. The statue of the painter stands in the center of the town square. For history lovers, not far from the Pieve square there is the Monte Ricco Fort, protagonist of the events of the First World War. the Fort has been renovated and today hosts temporary exhibitions and events.
Cortina d'Ampezzo: 30 km from Cibiana di Cadore we arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the pearl of the Dolomites, reachable by car or with the Dolomiti bus.
